Karabo Poppy Moletsane is an award-winning illustrator, graphic designer and street artist. She is inspired by the contemporary and traditional visual aesthetic of Africa. Poppy has illustrated for the Wall Street Journal, Google, Coca-Cola and Nike, and has created graphics for Queen Sono (Netflix’s first African series) and When They See Us. She was recently commissioned by Wikipedia to design a collection of symbols for its 20th anniversary.
Which three books would you recommend?
The Witches Roald Dahl
I would recommend this book to adults that are curious or creative. Roald Dahl was an incredibly creative writer and I personally re-read his children's books to get inspired and keep my mental library of stories and images challenged. Roald Dahl's children's books have amazing illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake which just add to the absurdity of his stories. It's a winning combo to keep creative and keep your inner child (which is often a key player in the creative process) alive.
Sharp Sharp Ed Suter
Those interested in the visual aesthetic of everyday life in South Africa specifically on the side of streetwear. It actually inspired me to create even more content about my country and encourage others to do the same in South Africa.
